Go to Settings > Chats > Backup. Toggle on encrypted backups. WeTalkin generates a unique backup encryption key. Your chats are encrypted on your device before any backup data leaves it.
WeTalkin displays a recovery phrase—a series of words that serve as your backup decryption key. Write this down on paper and store it securely. Without this phrase, backup restoration is impossible. Do not store it digitally where it could be compromised.
Select daily, weekly, or manual backup frequency. Daily backups ensure minimal data loss if you need to restore. Weekly backups conserve storage. Manual backups give you full control over when your data is backed up.
Check Settings > Chats > Backup to see your last successful backup date and size. Ensure backups are completing successfully. If a backup fails, check your storage availability and internet connection.
When setting up a new device, choose "Restore from Backup" during setup. Enter your recovery phrase. WeTalkin downloads your encrypted backup and decrypts it locally on your new device. All your messages, contacts, and settings are restored.

No. Backups are encrypted with your personal recovery phrase using zero-knowledge architecture. WeTalkin never sees your recovery phrase or backup decryption key. Even if backup storage is compromised, the data is unreadable without your recovery phrase.
Without your recovery phrase, encrypted backups cannot be restored. This is the security tradeoff of zero-knowledge encryption—no one, including WeTalkin, can recover your data without the phrase. Store it securely in a physical safe or other secure offline location.
Backup size depends on your message history and media. Text messages are very compact, while shared photos and videos increase backup size. You can configure backups to include or exclude media to manage storage requirements.
