BeReal's core feature captures photos from both cameras simultaneously at a random time each day. By default, your BeReal is visible to friends only, but the Discovery feed can make it public. Go to Settings > Privacy and ensure Discovery is disabled if you want to limit visibility. Review your friends list regularly and remove anyone you do not want seeing your daily photos. Remember that friends can screenshot your BeReal, so consider this before posting.
BeReal accesses your camera and can collect location data attached to each photo. On iOS, go to Settings > BeReal > Location and set it to 'Never' if you do not want geographic data on your posts. On Android, manage these permissions in Settings > Apps > BeReal > Permissions. Be aware that even without GPS, BeReal can approximate location from IP address and WiFi data. Disable the 'late' posting feature if you find it creates pressure to share at inconvenient times or locations.
Review BeReal's data collection by requesting a data export in Settings > Account > Request My Data. Disable push notifications to reduce background data collection. Clear your RealMoji history periodically. If you want to take a break, you can deactivate temporarily rather than deleting. For permanent removal, delete your account in Settings > Account > Delete My Account, and allow 30 days for full data purging.

Yes, BeReal can collect and display your approximate location on your posts by default. You can disable this by revoking location permissions in your phone settings. Even with location disabled, your IP address can reveal approximate geographic area.
BeReal notifies you when someone takes a screenshot of your post. However, there are workarounds users employ to avoid detection. Never share anything on BeReal that you would not want permanently captured and potentially shared beyond your friend group.
