Customize Per Conversation
In any conversation, tap the contact name > Disappearing Messages to set a custom timer for that specific chat. This overrides the default for that conversation. Different contacts can have different disappearing message timers.

Enable for Existing Conversations
Open any existing conversation, access settings through the contact name at the top, and enable disappearing messages. The timer applies to all new messages from that point forward. Existing messages are not affected retroactively.

Choose the Right Timer
Use short timers (5-30 seconds) for highly sensitive exchanges. Use medium timers (1-24 hours) for daily private conversations. Use longer timers (1-7 days) for groups where members need time to catch up. Match the timer to the sensitivity of the conversation.

Understand Limitations
Disappearing messages are deleted from both devices after the timer expires. However, recipients can screenshot, photograph, or manually copy message content before deletion. Disappearing messages reduce risk but do not prevent a determined recipient from preserving content.

Can the recipient save disappearing messages?
Recipients can screenshot or photograph the screen before messages disappear. Disappearing messages significantly reduce the risk of old conversations being exposed but cannot prevent a determined recipient from preserving content through external means.
Do disappearing messages delete from servers too?
